North Georgia Mountain Mortgage Snoozers Could Be Losers!

said on March 29th, 2013 filed under: Georgia Mountain Real Estate VIEWS

North Georgia Mountain Mortgage SavingsYour mortgage: you only think about it once a month (if you’re on autopay, maybe not even that often). Why worry about it? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Wrong!

Like all aspects of your big-picture financial planning, keeping an eye on that mortgage can be an extra wealth-building move. I can point to three reasons why re-evaluating your North Georgia Mountain mortgage could pay dividends:

Down, Down, Down…

Ok, with interest rates continually making headlines, this one might be a no-brainer. But some folks don’t realize just how attainable significant savings may be: a drop of just a single percentage point in the Blue Ridge GA mortgage rate can make a gigantic difference. A general rule of thumb is that if you can lower your interest rate by a percent or more, it usually makes sense to refinance. It’s certainly worth looking into. Read the rest of this entry »

7 Things No One Tells Blairsville Georgia First Time Homebuyers

said on March 27th, 2013 filed under: Georgia Mountain Real Estate VIEWS

Blairsville GA First Time Home BuyersFirst time home buyers in Blairsville Georgia are told a lot of things —

Save your money,” their parents advise.

Location, location, location!” their friend’s friend cautions.

Reasonable advice, for certain. But there some important elements of the home buying process which a typical Blairsville, GA. first time home buyer doesn’t usually hear. I’ve listed some of the most important ones, in no particular order:

  1. 1.                  Mortgage rates you see advertised aren’t usually what you get

The banner ads are everywhere online: “3.2% rates!” “No money down!” But the truth is, mortgage rates vary greatly. The only way you’ll know what rates you actually qualify for is to go through a complete mortgage application including credit pulls and income verification. One more point to consider: online mortgage calculators, while handy, can be deceptive if you do not factor in the real cost of tax, insurance and PMI when you’re looking at an FHA-loan.  Read the rest of this entry »

Are You Ready To Get “Back to Basics??” – A Sustainable Family Lifestyle Event – May 4th

said on March 25th, 2013 filed under: Georgia Mountain Real Estate VIEWS

back to basicsFor various reasons many people are becoming increasingly more interested in going “back to the basics” and learning how to have a sustainable family lifestyle.  Instead of buying grapes at the local market, why not grow your own?  Instead of having to buy a carton of eggs each week, why not have your own chickens? Want to learn how to grow your own vegetables?   Yes, a lot of this takes time and knowledge but for many, it is something that they desire to learn.

On Saturday May 4th, you and your family can have an opportunity to attend a “Back to , Basics” fun family day event that is sponsored by Cohutta Country Store, Feed Fannin , New Leaf Adventures and the University of Georgia Cooperative System. This fabulous event is $5 for the full day and ages 16 and under are free.  Some of the classes that will be led by very experienced people are:  Solar Energy, growing grapes and making wine, caring for fruit trees, raising goats, llamas and bees and much more.

There will be food, drink and fun family activities in addition to all the great learning that will be going on.  If this sounds of interest to you, mark the date of May 4th.  More information will be coming soon.

Blairsville Georgia Home Sales Prospects: Anything But Calm

said on March 23rd, 2013 filed under: Georgia Mountain Real Estate VIEWS

Blairsville GA Homes For SaleThis month, North Georgia Mountain home sellers have seen more than the usual number of reasons to look forward to this Spring’s Blairsville GA home sales selling season. It looked like the opposite of the lengthy real estate “Perfect Storm” that caused free fall across the national landscape.

Signs pointed to the possibility that we may be headed into the opposite market conditions. Webster’s Dictionary says the opposite of ‘storm’ is ‘calm’ – but I don’t think you would call town’s home sales outlook a “Perfect Calm.”  Far from it!

Some of the signs:

-                      Falling Inventory. Per the NAR’s Existing Home Sales Report, there’s a nation-wide shortage of total inventory. By the end of January, it had fallen another 4.9%: lowest in seven years. Raw unsold inventory hasn’t been this low in 14 years! Read the rest of this entry »

Boundary Waters Resort – Lodging and Boat Rental – Hiawassee

said on March 21st, 2013 filed under: Georgia Mountain Real Estate VIEWS

boundary waters resortIt’s still a little chilly in the mountains but spring break is right around the corner and predictions are it should be warming up a bit.  A mountain escape is a great family outing.  Something fun to do that doesn’t completely blow the budget is renting a boat to enjoy for the day.  My family did this through Boundary Waters in Hiawassee and it was a complete blast.   However, this is also a resort so you can lodge here as well.

I find the waters of Lake Chatuge to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the North Georgia Mountains.  You can bring your own boat or as I mentioned, rent one of theirs.  They have a variety of pontoon, deck boats, jet skis and an assortment of others to choose from.   Close by, you can also hike the Appalachian Trail, go visit Brasstown Bald, enjoy whitewater rafting or fishing as well as many fabulous restaurants such as Cafe Portofino.
